Set within the serene landscape of Kigo, this residence is envisioned as a modern family home that balances privacy, comfort, and openness to nature. The design responds to the site’s suburban context and natural surroundings, creating a retreat that feels both grounded and contemporary. The vision was to craft a home that is minimal yet warm, functional yet expressive, with spaces that adapt to daily family life.

Design Vision

The architecture is organized around clear volumes that articulate public and private zones. The central living spaces comprising the lounge, dining, and kitchen are designed as an open plan with expansive glazing that blurs the boundary between indoor life and the landscaped garden. Bedrooms are positioned more privately, offering tranquil retreats with framed views and controlled daylight.

Spatial Experience

The spatial experience moves from openness to intimacy: entering through a light-filled foyer, one is guided into generous social spaces where double-height ceilings and large windows create a sense of airiness. In contrast, the private quarters employ lower ceilings, muted tones, and softer materials to evoke calm and rest. Circulation is fluid and intuitive, with a strong visual connection to courtyards and outdoor terraces that extend living spaces outward.

Architectural Highlights

  • Site-Responsive Orientation: Strategic placement of openings to maximize natural light, cross-ventilation, and views while ensuring privacy from neighboring plots.

  • Material Palette: A refined combination of local stone, textured plaster, timber accents, and steel detailing, balancing durability with warmth.
  • Indoor–Outdoor Living: Sliding glass walls and terraces that dissolve barriers, allowing social spaces to extend into the garden.
  • Layered Façade Treatment: Use of overhangs, pergolas, and shading devices to create depth, regulate solar gain, and add sculptural character.
  • Landscape Integration: Courtyards, gardens, and shaded outdoor living areas that anchor the house within its natural environment.
